Tasks And Responsibilities
The National Animal Health Specialist is an SC 9 position and will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh, and the direct supervision of the Project Team Leader. The National Animal Health Specialist keeping close liaison with the Project Director and the Chief Technical Coordinator (CTC) of LDDP and other relevant project staff, the representative of partner organization of public, private or development organization or the field staff work for the implementation of project activities, and following technical supervision of the LTO and the guidance of the AGAG will undertake the following:
- Prepare a detailed work plan and time schedule for completing the project’s activities in a sustainable manner;
- Support the mapping of existing farmers’ groups (FG) and mobilization of FGs/POs
- Support project baseline survey, development of curricula for Farmers` Field School (FFS), and the Manuals for FFS and livestock extension
- Develop action plans for the management of risks associated with animal health, public health, and food safety, animal production, marketing, and climate
- Help organization of FGDs, national workshop, and any other relevant events
- Review national and global plans of animal disease control and prevention plan, zoonoses, and veterinary public health management and develop policy and action plans
- Review One health policy issues and plans and draft policy accordingly
- Review food safety plans and policy of livestock origins and implementation status in the country and develop policy and action plans taking lessons from the developed country.
- Providing backstopping support for timely implementation of projects activities;
- Assist preparation of monthly/quarterly/half-yearly progress reports;
- Any other responsibility assigned by the local supervisor/management and AFAOR (Programme).
Tasks And Responsibilities
- Prepare a detailed work plan and time schedule for completing the project’s activities in a sustainable manner;
- Advise on the modalities and supporting LDDP staff in the development of management and ownership structures of the husbandry and dairy sectors and assistance with its implementation;
- Provide monitoring supervision and technical guidance on animal husbandry and dairy production to the LDDP and LFPOs;
- Provides specific policy advice and support to the LDDP on technical matters related to animal husbandry;
- Coordinate the analysis of the projects achievements and preparation of recommendations for PMU-LDDP;
- Supervise and support the implementation of the tasks of the peers
- Liaise with the PMU-LDDP and other concerned organizations and agencies related to activity implementations
- Providing backstopping support for timely implementation of projects activities;
- Make sure women are encouraged to participate in the improvement of the husbandry sector at all levels;
- Assist preparation of monthly/quarterly/half-yearly progress reports;
- Any other responsibility assigned by the team leader.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- Advanced degree in Veterinary Sciences from any reputed university
- At least 15 years of work experience in the related field including 5 years` research and first-hand experience in Animal Health, disease control, and zoonose management
- Demonstrated profound understanding of animal health management, prevention and control, zoonoses, and udder health of ruminant animals both in public and private sector, have knowledge in diversified disciplines of livestock production, good practices in product quality control, value chain development, food safety of animal origins

- Proven experience in preparation of technical documents on livestock/agribusiness in the national/international scenario

- Competent user of computer and ICT tools having skilled writing, typing, and communication ability
- Proven skills in program monitoring and coordination;
- Demonstrated innovative thinking and practical execution;
- Ability to solve problems, use initiative, and manage work under limited supervision;
- The applicant has a working knowledge of English (written and Spoken) and the local dialect is preferred.
